Law Student Essay Contest. For the second year, FLMIC is the proud co-sponsor an essay contest designed exclusively for Florida law students created thru a partnership with the Young Lawyers Division of The Florida Bar. The purpose of the writing contest is to raise awareness of how risks that can be avoided thru the introduction of best practices and opportunities to manage risks thru professional liability insurance. This year the topic for the essay is best practices for small firms and solo practitioners to manage risk associate with e-discovery. In addition to a $500 cash prize, recognition by the FLMIC and YLD boards, and admission and accommodations to the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialsts annual conference on April 2-4, 2012 in Hollywood, Florida, the winner's entry will be submitted by the Young Lawyers Division to The Florida Bar Journal for publication consideration. This past year's winning article by Jonathan Baker, a 3L from FSU, will be published by The Florida Bar Journal in November. Last year's topic was best practices for a law office in the "Age of Cloud Computing." Eric Everson, a 2L at FAMU, was the Honorable Mention receipient in last year's contest. Speakers Bureau. Working together with the YLD and its Law Student Division, FLMIC has made speakers available to assist in organizing various events that provide networking opportunities for law students with local attorneys. FLMIC presentations are usually approved for 1 hr of ethics CLE by The Florida Bar and lunch is often provided free of charge. The law student who is organizing the event has had the opportunity to work with the local bar association, area attorneys as well as administration at their law school when putting the event together enabling the law student to get involved in the profession while still in school.Free Risk Management Information.
